Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi reportedly decline £850,000 a week in wages from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in order to extend his stay at Camp Nou by signing a new contract with Barcelona.
The Argentina skipper has been heavily linked with a potential exit from the Catalan outfit over the last few months as he has refused to pen a new deal Copa Del Rey Champions, with the Premier League club tempting him with a big-money move to Etihad Stadium, said to be his most realistic option.
According to Marca, claims that Manchester City sorted the representatives of the five Ballon d’Or winner allegedly without the permission of Barcelona and they offer the 30-year-old a whopping of £850,000 a week in wages as well as a signing-on bonus of £88m.
Messi contract with the perennial champions was due to expire in June next year, which could have allowed him to began to talk officially with other clubs including the Cityzen in January, but he instead signed a new deal last week keeping him in Barcelona until 2021 on reported weekly wages of £500,000.
Messi insisted that he had to intention of leaving Nou Camp because he wants to end his playing career with Barcelona.
